A Korean supermarket in south London has temporarily pulled the sale of live crabs from the shelves after shoppers became outraged that they were packaged in cling film.
Korea Foods said it was "no longer offering" live crabs to customers after concerned shoppers complained to the New Malden branch.
Shoppers spoke of their disgust on Twitter after crabs were seen moving on display in fridges packaged on a polystyrene plate while wrapped in cling film.

Hayley Samantha posted: "Disgusted to hear @Koreafoods are selling live crabs in plastic bags. Callous disregard for a living creature."
While Concepta Cassar wrote: "Very disappointed to hear that @koreafoods has been stocking live crabs sealed in plastic. Will be withdrawing my custom until dealt with."
Shelved: Korea Foods has stopped offering to sell live crabs following public concern
According to the Wimbledon Guardian, the company defended the sales, adding some English people "might be sensitive" to the product.
A company spokesman said: "Korea Foods recognises the concerns raised in the media recently, relating to the sale of live crabs.
"We have already taken action, as recommended by our local council, and have already contacted the RSPCA to discuss how we might further improve our practices, which we will then implement as soon as is feasible.
"We are no longer offering the sale of live crabs until this issue is resolved.”
Investigators at the RSPCA were first contacted by Merton Council following concerns from shoppers.
Councillor Judy Saunders said: “The council received a complaint about the packaging of live crabs.
"We do not have powers to enforce on animal welfare but will be referring the matter to the RSPCA for them to take the appropriate action.
"In the meantime, our environmental health officers visited the premises to inspect and suggested alternative ways of packaging to ensure the crabs are sold alive, and safely.”
The RSPCA said while it opposed the sale of live crabs, the practice was not deemed illegal under the Animal Welfare Act.

An RSPCA spokeswoman said: "Crustaceans should not be held out of water for extended periods of time and should always have an adequate supply of aerated water which should be as cool as possible.
“Killing by plunging a live animal into boiling water is also considered by the Society to be cruel.
“Whichever way these animals are killed for human consumption, it must be done by trained, competent operatives, in order to avoid causing suffering to the animals.
“The RSPCA recommendation to the public is not to buy live lobsters and crabs but to purchase them pre-killed.”
