1. Tougher English Language Requirements
Migrants applying through certain legal routes must now meet A-Level equivalent (CEFR B2)standards in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Tests must be taken with Home Office-approved providers and verified during the visa process.
2. Graduate Visa (PSW) Changes
Post-study work period reduced from 2 years to 18 months, effective 1 January 2027, due to low transition rates into graduate-level jobs.
3. Immigration Skills Charge (ISC) Increase
ISC paid by employers sponsoring skilled workers will increase by 32% (first rise since 2017).
Funds will be reinvested in training UK workers.
4. Student Visa Financial Requirements
From the 2025–2026 academic year, international students must show higher financial resources to support themselves.
5. High Potential Individual (HPI) Route Expansion
Now open to graduates from the top 100 global universities.
Annual cap increased to 8,000 applications, with expected intake doubling from 2,000 to 4,000.
6. Support for Entrepreneurs
International students can transition to the Innovator Founder visa to start businesses in the UK after graduation.
7. Global Talent Route Enhancements
Expanded list of prestigious awards and evidence criteria, especially for architects.
Further changes planned for 2026 to attract top researchers, designers, and creatives.
