Position Title: Lab Technician
Reports to: Lab Supervisor and Lab Director
Location: Edgware, London
Job Type: Full-Time
Shift and Schedule: Flexitime, Monday to Friday
Salary: from £22,000
The role
To assist and run tests at Kernel Diagnostics Laboratories LTD, and assisting with various other tasks around the lab.
Key Responsibilities include:
• Receiving, labelling and sorting samples, in line with strict laboratory regulations.
• Maintain laboratory equipment: cleaning, sterilisation, calibration, routine maintenance, and equipment inventory management.
• Conduct routine QA/QC testing following SOPs and record, analyse, and present results to senior colleagues.
• Timely processing of samples for analysis.
• Maintain a stock of laboratory consumables, and reagents.
• Manage biological and chemical waste processing and disposal.
• Manage lab organisation: labelling and sorting samples, tracking and storing deliveries, and arranging shipments of samples and equipment.
• Maintain a clean and efficient lab environment, ensuring compliance with quality, health, safety, and environmental procedures.
• To keep the lab clean and stocked with all necessary equipment.
• Develop laboratory skills as required for assigned tasks and projects
• Report any operational issues to the company and building management
Essential criteria include
• A good first degree in life/biomedical sciences or other closely related subject.
• Proven experience in a biological/diagnostic laboratory.
• Skilled in learning and applying practical techniques to troubleshoot technical issues.
• Experience maintaining and calibrating lab equipment.
• Proactive in health and safety compliance.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Office with excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Good basic computer skills with common software applications.
Desirable experience includes one or more of the following: practical experience in automation and high-throughput experimental workflows; blood handling, analysis, microbiology, urine culture, and processing.
