2024년 5월에 실시될 AP 과목에 대해 총정리를 해드립니다!



AP란 무엇인가요?
AP는 Advanced Placement의 줄임말로 미국의 고등학교에서 제공되는 대학 수준의 과목들을 학생들에게 제공하는 프로그램입니다.

미국과 캐나다 대학을 목표로 하는 학생들은 AP 수업을 학교에서 이수하고, 대학 진학에 유리한 해당 AP 과목 시험을 응시합니다. AP시험은 매년마다 5월에 치뤄지며, 학년과 상관없이 누구나 시험을 응시할 수 있습니다. AP 1-5 점으로 등급이 매겨지는데 1이 가장 낮은 점수이고, 5는 가장 높은 점수입니다.



AP를 왜 수강해야될까요?
AP 프로그램은 College Board에서 관리하며, AP 시험을 통과하면 학생들은 대학 학점을 받을 수 있습니다. 대부분의 미국 대학은 AP 시험에서 좋은 성적을 받은 학생들에게 학점을 인정해주는데, 이를 통해 학생들은 대학에서 더 높은 수준의 수업을 듣거나 학점을 조기에 취득할 수 있습니다.

AP 수업을 듣고 시험에 성공적으로 합격한 학생들은 대학 입학심사에서 우위에 서게 될 수 있습니다. 대학 입학위원들은 학생들이 고급 수준의 수업을 이수하고 어려운 시험을 통과했다는 것을 인정하며, 이는 학생의 학업 역량과 열정을 입증하는 중요한 요소로 보여질 수 있기 때문에, AP과목 수강을 희망하는 학생들이 매년 늘어나는 추세입니다.
